Cashless Billing System

A cashless billing system settles patient invoices without a counter or cash transaction — payments are completed on the patient's own device against their share of the bill, with payer-share processed through institutional and insurance pathways simultaneously. In HealthOS, cashless billing is the default state of the Financial Intelligence layer.

What hospitals struggle with

Counter billing is a queue, a delay, and a labor cost. Cash and card transactions at the counter are reconciled overnight; disputes surface days later; the patient leaves the hospital with paper receipts and a manual claim to file.

How HealthOS runs it

The institutional workflow.

  1. 01

At the moment of care, the patient's share of the bill is computed against the encounter, plan, and authorization.

  2. 02

Patient settles directly from their device — UPI, card, wallet, bank transfer, jurisdiction-appropriate methods.

  3. 03

Payer share is submitted automatically through the appropriate claim or pre-authorization pathway.

  4. 04

Receipts, claim status, and follow-up requirements appear on the patient's Patient Platform.

  5. 05

Reconciliation is continuous; the institution sees real-time cash and claims state on the Financial Intelligence dashboard.

Canonical layer

This workflow runs on the Financial Intelligence.

The Financial Intelligence is one of the layers of HealthOS. It is not a separate product; it is a property of the substrate. See the Financial Intelligence layer →

Frequently asked

Is this only for self-pay patients?

No. Self-pay, payer-share, mixed-pay, and cashless schemes are all handled. The architecture is the same; the rules differ per encounter and payer.

What about patients without bank accounts?

Counter and cash flows remain supported; the architecture is cashless-default but not cashless-only.

Position

The billing counter is the operational tax of a fragmented stack. When clinical and financial layers run as one, settling is the patient's own action, on their own device, in their own time. Signed by the Veronara Financial Intelligence Office.
